This and that

Matthew had a very good 1st dentist appointment.

He was a little apprehensive at first but once they called his name he went back bravely - by himself.  Which saved my life, because I had no idea what I would have done with Carson and Dylan if I had to hold Matthew's hand while he was getting his cleaning. Yeah, I took all three to the dentist, by-myself. It was manageable. I am getting better at going out with them on my own.

This is the playground in the reception area of the dentist's office. Fun!

Poor Dylan didn't have it so lucky. He got his first cavity. It is on the side of the tooth between two of his bottom molars, so they had to but a crown on the tooth. I was devastated. It seemed so drastic to me - a crown on a 5 year old. After the dentist explained to me the procedure, and I did a little research online, I felt better. I suppose they just don't do simple fillings for that type of cavity on a 5 year old. Luckily, he'll get a 2nd chance when his adult teeth come in. Unfortunately, it might not be until he is at least 9 years old for that molar. So until then we are going to start flossing - which is as easy as trying to floss a cat while it shrieks and scratches your eyes out.

He was shy and sad about having a "grey" tooth, but after about 2 days he got over it.

Last weekend, we took the kids to the Chicago Children's Museum to check out the Forts Exhibit (which ends today).
Joe had a blast building forts using sheets, chairs, pillows etc.
Oh, Dylan and Matthew did too.
Joe only took video of the adventure but here is a photo of Dylan and I working on a Find-the-Word puzzle while we waited for our dinner at Bubba Gump Shrimp. It was a fun day out of the house. Due to the winter weather, the boys and I will spend days-upon-days in the house and by the weekend, I am itchin' to get out.

Finally, look who's sitting up a little now!!
When he tumbles over (usually when he is reaching for something) Dylan laughs his head off. Nothing funnier than watching your brother doing face plant, I suppose!
Carson will be 5 months old tomorrow. Soon he'll be "rearranging" my Tupperware cupboard.

Hey, Quyen! I was wondering where you've been. If you haven't tried it yet, check out those little flosser sticks (cool dinosaur shapes!). That's easier than wrapping the string around my finger and doing it myself. I'm probably too guilty of trusting that my kids are doing a good job of brushing their own teeth and flossing. I used the flosser stick myself on Alexander the other day and was appalled at how much shredded chicken came out from between his teeth -- yuck!
